June Board Meeting Recap

WORTH COUNTY BOE JUNE MEETING RECAP

The Worth County R-III Board of Education met on June 23, 2022 to conduct its monthly and year-end business. The budget included the acceptance of the state’s Base Salary Grant to move the base salary to $38,000. The board also voted to add $1,000 of local money to the salary schedule to help alleviate compression of the salary schedule. Administrators and non-certified staff pay scale received the same 3.2% raise plus years of service increase. The board also voted to increase the board paid health insurance contribution by $25 per month to offset the 5.9% increase in health insurance rates.

Included in the 22-23 budget, the board approved the purchase of two new gasoline buses with the help of DERA Grant funds. Overall, the district approved a deficit budget that was needed to add an additional kindergarten teacher due to larger enrollment, make the bus purchases, repair the agriculture building roof, prepare for the increased costs of goods and services, and to meet the state’s minimum salary goal. 2021-2022 showed a budget surplus with additional federal funding, grants the district received, and some additional state funds.

The administrators discussed the professional development plan for 22-23 that was approved at the meeting. The professional development plan includes a focus on social-emotional learning, continued work on developing assessment capable learners, opportunities for content area growth for teachers, and a focus on curriculum to continue to align them to state standards and assessments. The administrators will also attend a school safety workshop in early August.

In personnel news, the board hired Connie Nonneman as a full-time custodian starting this summer and Johnny Thurman as a route bus driver for the 22-23 school year.

The next board of education meeting will be July 18, 2022 at 7:30.
